With crimson cheeks and eyes so bright,

They dance beneath the circus light.

Their hats askew, their shoes too wide,
They trip and tumble, side by side.
A honking horn, a burst of flair,
Laughter echoes through the air.

But behind the mask, beneath the guise,
Linger secrets in their eyes.
A fleeting joy, a shadowed pain,
The painted tears that fall like rain.

Balancing on the edge of jest,
They give their hearts, they do their best.
For every laugh, they pay a toll,
The hidden ache within their soul.

Yet still, they leap, they twist, they play,
Chasing sorrow far away.
For clowns, with courage to confide,
Are poets of the brighter side.
